100 Days of Fasting Against the Minutemen

I read this and couldn't help thinking that starving Mexicans is so cliche. The good news is that these people are doing themselves a service in dieting to avoid diabetes. Good job!
100 Days of Fasting Against the Minutemen: "'Maybe they don't understand that undocumented people have built the economy of the United States for a long time,” he said. “There should be more ways to make (the work) legal. We are all immigrants in the United States. Ancestors of the white people also came here. It's the same for Mexican people.” Antonio Carrisales, Bricklayer, Donna, TX. La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE), a human rights"

New RGV Life Blogger

I just got an email from a fellow Rio Grande Valley citizen asking to join RGV Life. I have sent out an invitation and we are pending the sign up process. I look forward to reading another writer's material.

There is no way to share my audioblog account without giving out login and billing info, so it will be just me podcasting for now. Although, I have been looking into using a service that allows me to record internet phone calls. Perhaps we can have recorded discussions in the future. Podcasting is still new to me, so I am still reading my Podcasting for Dummies book.

The invitation is still open if you believe that you are able to share the experience of living in the Rio Grande Valley with other residents and with the world. You are welcome to join RGV Life. Just drop me an email.

RGV Life Podcast #7

Now on Podcast Pickle.

Here is RGV Life Podcast #7. This used a different approach. Instead of making show notes, I used my blog entries from the past few days as reference.

Just a reminder, the RGV Life podcast will be done once a week instead of daily. Blog entries will form the basis of the show. This post was shrunk by audioblog.com from 24 MB to a little over 12 MB.

MP3 File

Show #7 is in the can

I finished recording show #7, but it's over 50 minutes long and weighs 25 MB. I need to go somewhere with high bandwidth to upload it to the server. Audioblog will then shrink it down a little bit, hopefully a lot. I'm still below my 5 GB of bandwidth, so we're still within budget.

Thank you for listening to my unsolicited opinions. Your comments and questions are welcome.

Two sides to JP Precinct 1 Place 2 race

This article goes into a little more detail about a JPs duties. I guess I just don't know how a JP fits into the whole judiciary process. I am thinking that county court judges have jurisdiction over the entire county and JPs have jurisdiction within their precincts. So, I guess municipal judges only decide in city matters. I am also seeing that The County Judge doesn't judge anything. Furthermore, JPs don't have to be attorneys and can get the title of judge.

Two sides to JP Precinct 1 Place 2 race: "The race for Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Place 2 is between incumbent Jesús E. 'Jesse' Morales and his former employee Deanna A. Martinez...."

JP Precinct 2 Place 2 race pits experience against expertise

JP Precinct 2 Place 2 race pits experience against expertise: "With early voting less than two weeks away, Hidalgo County justice of the peace candidate Albert T. Garcia is still keeping busy on the campaign trail, confident a victory will be the end result...."

I thought I would bring you this because it pertains to living in the Rio Grande Valley. I don't really know what a JP's job is, however. When I've encountered JPs, it's been over a ticket from DPS (not mine), or because I got married by one. I also hear that they go to scenes to declare people dead. There is another article about another race in just a few minutes.

3 vie for Hidalgo County district clerk spot

3 vie for Hidalgo County district clerk spot: "The winner will administer an annual budget of about $2 million, receive a yearly salary of more than $68,000 and serve as the registrar, recorder and custodian of court records directly or indirectly affecting virtually everyone in the county...."

After reading that article, I get the impression that the race is really between Laura Hinojosa and Robert Mendoza. I know it's fashionable to thing "innocent til proven guilty", but you don't see people taking their children to Michael Jackson in droves. Tom Delay hasn't been proven guilty of anything, but politicians are distancing themselves. Similarly with Omar Guerrero, he has not been found guilty of anything, but after so many stories about his absences, missing court dates, of which he is the keeper of records, drugs, alcohol, and whatever other stories, why would we think all of these things in combination are a big misunderstanding or a little personal problem? One or two things, maybe. One after the other, it's just difficult to believe.

So, who will you favor? Robert Mendoza or Laura Hinojosa?
