Sad Decision

I have come to a sad decision tonight. I am removing Edinburg News from the
front page of SpinRGV and from any links on my sites. I had hoped that the
blog would improve with the passing of the election and actually work to
elevate the Rio Grande Valley in general and Edinburg politics in
particular. It appears that the author(s) have chosen to continue on a path
of character assassination, deception, and innuendo. I've had requests to
remove the site, but have been reluctant in the interest of fairness.
Finally, the blog has reached the point where they are calling the pockets
where they are going to sink their target. I'm afraid I cannot be party to
helping the blog get attention any longer.

A website is successful by two standards, the amount of readers it gets and
the number of sites that link to it. RGV Life and SpinRGV, from this point
on, will no longer link to the site and I will no longer read any more
posts. My previous post is the last of the sort. I still have most of the
site's deleted posts cached for future reference, just in case. I'm not one
to tell my readers what to do as you can make your own decisions. I do
recommend letting that blog wither on the vine. If you give them too much
attention, they may end up targeting you one day. For now, we know that City
of Edinburg employees are facing some tough times ahead as the targets of a
political witch hunt. I suggest you support them whenever you have a chance.

Hey I am new to all this...what is going on and what is the problem with Edinburg news? What if it's all a hoax? Why did you take the link off??

what is it that they are doing that made you do this?

They have a history of making up stuff about people. They've been caught. They have covered up their history by deleteing their old posts.

It's not a hoax. I have been informed about the dynamics of why the Director of Solid Waste is undesireable. Suffice it to say, it's office politics.

So is this censorship what you are doing? It is just a question...why is it okay for some bloggers to talk bad about one side but not okay to talk about the other...

We have bloggers on here calling for a REcall and also comparing Mr. Ochoa to Saddam Huisane...which is an absord comparison.

YEt, this is what you decide to take off? I am just wondering what the difference is. I have not red what Edinburg News says, and I don't intend too...

My point is that if you have one side..might as well have the other...
Apparantly both sides do sketchy things

I understand what you are saying with respect to how some of the other bloggers are very passionate about their defense or attacks on certain politicians. This is not the basis for my decision.

EN is using the blog to dig up dirt on a city employee in order to oust him. We're not talking about voting somebody out. This is an effort to get somebody fired from a non-elected position. EN has nothing on the guy but is calling for anything that can be used against him. I can tolerate bashing elected officials because, frankly, they ask for it. I'm not going to be party to helping destroy a man's career.

Another point is, it's censorship when the government silences a voice. When I do it, it's freedom of expression.

Fall 2024 in the RGV

It's that time of year again when Winter Texans start to make their way south from the northern states. I have already had phone calls with a Winter Texan client who is getting ready to come down. I think it is fascinating that we can make friends from people who are visiting only seasonally.  Looking at the blog stats, I seem to get a peak in traffic every year. So I suppose it must be partly due to many of our friends coming back from up north.  Image generated by Gemini 1.5 Pro AI Speaking of seasons, we still have a couple of months to go before the end of hurricane season for 2024. We have been fortunate this year, compared to other parts of the USA. Although, south Texas could use the rain.  This time of year makes me happy as we finally have nights that are below 78F like we had all summer. This week we have had mornings in the 60s. While we still have hot days in the 90s, we at least get some respite in the evenings, leading to cool mornings.  Returning to RG...

The Mad Mexican

Years ago, there used to be a DJ at B104, a local radio station. Until recent years, B104 had a large audience. They played pop music. The Mad Mexican used to do the morning show with Gary Rodriguez, who is now involved in McAllen politics. Well, the Mad Mexican is still working, but on a national level. I heard him this morning on Aguila, XM 92. Aguila is the Mexican music station on XM Satellite Radio. It's great to hear from him again. He's still pretty wild. Gary Rodriguez? He worked for 107.9 for a while before going to KURV and then entering politics.
