The end is near

Denise asked me to find the article where Al Gore predicts the end of life on Earth due to global warming. So, I found it.

The whole thing started with my assertion that Gore went nutty after losing the election. The context in wich I wrote it was that the current County Judge should not go MIA. He should continue to serve to the best of his ability and keep his head high because he lost by just the slightest margin. If this were a landslide loss, I would understand him feeling rejected. But with slightly less than 50% of the vote, he has a chance to do other things, including taking on Juan Maldonado.

If you recall, after the election, Al Gore lost his seat in Tennessee and went MIA. When Gore reappeared, he was all Grizzly Adams and had dreams of starting a TV network. He also went around doing speaches eviscerating the President for any decision. Every time he showed up on a TV show, he kept making jokes about his loss and how he has moved on, despite not being asked about it.

I think Judge Garcia is smarter and classier than that. He should continue to give us his best to the very end of his term. This way, he can hand JD Salinas the keys to the county in great condition, hoping all the while that JD runs it into the ground. Hey, Garcia can hope too.

Shaine, you don't expect me to taint my browser with a link from Newsmax, do you? Newsmax?!

Isn’t that the “news” site that complains day in and day out about “liberal bias,” while choosing only to run stories with an obvious conservative slant? They present their site as a news organization but behave very much like a political organization.

I'll let it pass this time, but don't expect me to accept anything posted on that site as truth.

Fall 2024 in the RGV

It's that time of year again when Winter Texans start to make their way south from the northern states. I have already had phone calls with a Winter Texan client who is getting ready to come down. I think it is fascinating that we can make friends from people who are visiting only seasonally.  Looking at the blog stats, I seem to get a peak in traffic every year. So I suppose it must be partly due to many of our friends coming back from up north.  Image generated by Gemini 1.5 Pro AI Speaking of seasons, we still have a couple of months to go before the end of hurricane season for 2024. We have been fortunate this year, compared to other parts of the USA. Although, south Texas could use the rain.  This time of year makes me happy as we finally have nights that are below 78F like we had all summer. This week we have had mornings in the 60s. While we still have hot days in the 90s, we at least get some respite in the evenings, leading to cool mornings.  Returning to RG...

The Mad Mexican

Years ago, there used to be a DJ at B104, a local radio station. Until recent years, B104 had a large audience. They played pop music. The Mad Mexican used to do the morning show with Gary Rodriguez, who is now involved in McAllen politics. Well, the Mad Mexican is still working, but on a national level. I heard him this morning on Aguila, XM 92. Aguila is the Mexican music station on XM Satellite Radio. It's great to hear from him again. He's still pretty wild. Gary Rodriguez? He worked for 107.9 for a while before going to KURV and then entering politics.
