No Concession

So far, Judge Ramon Garcia has not conceded the race to JD Salinas. I'm hearing that there is interest in a recount. They're going to look at all the votes electron by electron to make sure there were no mistakes. Seriously, it kind of reminds me of the election back in 2000 between George W. Bush and Al Gore with the recounts and hanging chads. Gore wouldn't concede after so many recounts. Even after it was decided, the liberal press wouldn't give it up and they did their own recounts to come to the same conclusion. Can we expect Judge Garcia to challenge the results in court? With such a small margin of victory, I realize that it may be a hard pill to swallow. But hanging on too long makes one look like a sore loser. I see two possibilities regardless of how many recounts, he either won or lost. It's like when you ask a doctor for your chances of survival through a critical period. The doctor says the patient has a 30% chance or some other number. They're full of it. You either live or die. It's 50-50. Garcia either won or lost, and it looks like the latter more than the former. The Judge should concede with dignity. If later, stuff turns up that makes JD look bad, the judge will be vindicated. If nothing comes out on JD, then the judge will preserve respect from the community for being a good sport.

To the previous poster. "A**hole!"

As a big critic of RG and his style of politics. I must state that I believe it's still too soon to judge him. It's only been 2 days. I would probably be asking some hard questions and going thru the process. Now, if by next week he doesn't make a decision It'll start looking bad!

My point is, he shouldn't wait until he looks bad. He could take action now and still come out looking like a good sport. This would help if he chooses to run again. He could be a good sport like Joe Lieberman who moved on after his VP defeat, or he can be a bad loser like Al Gore who just went downhill after his loss. Judge Garcia should preserve his dignity and the respect of the community. I actually think the Judge did a pretty good job and I think he will continue to do a good job for the rest of his term.

Shaine,

He's done! As a candidate he's done! Now with the openings that will come up in the District Courts in the near future you can bet he will field another candidate. Not Eric Jarvis, maybe Omar Guerrero will get a mail-order Law Degree!

Please pass this info to Laura. It is the info to RECALL Omar Guerrero. Let's do this before he causes the County anymore damage!

Fall 2024 in the RGV

It's that time of year again when Winter Texans start to make their way south from the northern states. I have already had phone calls with a Winter Texan client who is getting ready to come down. I think it is fascinating that we can make friends from people who are visiting only seasonally.  Looking at the blog stats, I seem to get a peak in traffic every year. So I suppose it must be partly due to many of our friends coming back from up north.  Image generated by Gemini 1.5 Pro AI Speaking of seasons, we still have a couple of months to go before the end of hurricane season for 2024. We have been fortunate this year, compared to other parts of the USA. Although, south Texas could use the rain.  This time of year makes me happy as we finally have nights that are below 78F like we had all summer. This week we have had mornings in the 60s. While we still have hot days in the 90s, we at least get some respite in the evenings, leading to cool mornings.  Returning to RG...

The Mad Mexican

Years ago, there used to be a DJ at B104, a local radio station. Until recent years, B104 had a large audience. They played pop music. The Mad Mexican used to do the morning show with Gary Rodriguez, who is now involved in McAllen politics. Well, the Mad Mexican is still working, but on a national level. I heard him this morning on Aguila, XM 92. Aguila is the Mexican music station on XM Satellite Radio. It's great to hear from him again. He's still pretty wild. Gary Rodriguez? He worked for 107.9 for a while before going to KURV and then entering politics.
