Laura Hinojosa Speech

This is Laura Hinojosa speaking at the Fiesta Ballroom in Palmview, Tx. The event was sponsored by State Rep. Kino Flores and western Hidalgo County mayors. The picture is lousy, but better than the others I took. I did a poor job on this. The speech starts in English and ends in Spanish.

The lady is as beautiful as she is on the posters! I heard that she didn't know how to speak spanish. I now know that it was just another false rumor being thrown out by her opponents. You helped me make my decision in the District Clerk's race. Laura has character, she's young and you know she's going places. Thanks for the audio.

P.S. I read somewhere that you're responsible for her campaign. Where did you find her? We need more like her.

No, I don't know the first thing about campaigning. She chose to run on her own after seeing the consistent absences of the incumbent. She obviously has some experience campaigning, her dad is U.S. Rep. Ruben Hinojosa, but she has her own staff helping her get out her message. All I do is volunteer when I have some free time. I'm glad you found the audio useful. I hope you had a chance to listen to other candidates too.

Sorry Shaine, but this candidate nomas no!!

Shane, you picked a winner in this race. I don't understand how someone can be serious when they write "nomas no" without further explanation. Everyone knows about the incumbent, because of the incumbent - Omar. No one knows about the other candidate, who I've heard was put up to run by Omar, Billy Leo and Ramon Garcia to cause a run-off. I hope the recent poll where Laura got 83%, reflects the pulse of the community.

I understand that the Hidalgo County Bar Association generally votes the way the county will vote. If this is true, she has a really good chance of taking the election overwhelmingly. I'm hearing some of the things you're hearing too.

On the other hand, I am disturbed by other candidates who won the straw poll. I have my doubts about some candidates. And in the case of county judge, I feel like I am choosing the lesser of two evils. I'll be writing about it later.

If I was voting on looks, she'd get my vote. If I was voting on who was least likely to be a potsmoking burnout, she'd get my vote. Even in his billboard ad Omar looks like he's stoned.

Hope you don't mind a plug for my own forum shaine.

Looks aside, today's Monitor says that she's educated, a mother of 3 and involved in the community. I rally like this candidate. Voting for Laura is a no brainer.

I had a chance to talk to Laura for a while last week. She's is "what you see, is what you get" sincere and humble. She seems to want to do the right thing for that office.

I like the boots and skirt. Looks like she's trying to revive Jedi fashion!

Suprise folks she the poster is really good art work. And her name is Laura Quintanilla. Unfortunately the individual with the most experience is Robert Mendoza but he is a working man not the product of a privliged life. Laura stay at the PTA I hope you know that your husbands law firm will now be in the spotlight if elected

Omar wasn't qualified when he got the job. Since he's never there, he probably still isn't qualified. Robert Mendoza is qualified to be a bailiff; he's never been a district clerk. Laura, has never been a district clerk either, so they are all tied insofar as qualifications go. The main difference is that she wants to do this job and will be there to do it. For Mendoza it's a promotion and a pay raise; and for Omar it's a part-time job.

The rest is incoherent, so I won't even begin trying to figure out what you wrote.

"I understand that the Hidalgo County Bar Association generally votes the way the county will vote."

Shaine, where the hell do you get this? The Bar Association NEVER votes like the voters do! They only see who'll be more acceptable to their ways.

I don't support this woman because she has taken it for granted that she'll just win this position outright. First of all, she's hasn't managed to hold a job for more than a couple of years, and then proudly proclaims, "I've made a difference" in her commercial. What kind of attitude is that? It takes more than volunteering for a few organizations to make a difference. Someone as arrogant as her has no business in politics.

And no, Billy and Ramon did not put Omar up. He's hired his own PR company for re-election.

You're starting to sound like a couple of other idiots that run political blogs in that they only do so to promote their candidates.

You're better than that, Shaine!

It's probably true that any other candidate who would have opponents like Laura's, would probably take their race for granted. Not Laura. Anyone who knows Laura knows that she takes nothing for granted. You obviously know nothing of her campaign. She hasn't slowed down one bit. As for "Arrogance," - you really know nothing of this lady. Beautiful, Happy, Caring, Confident, Honest, Responsible, Educated, Tireless, Anal, Committed,- YES. Arrogant-No.

Might I add that she is a semi-pro kick boxer. Seriously, about two years ago, I went in the ring with her and she had no mercy on me. Her opponents don't stand a chance.

This is good to know, because I don't agree with some of the people they picked.

Back to Laura, you seem to think that volunteering is a worthless endeavor. Let me point out that volunteering as President of the B & G Club is more than just window dressing, it carries work and responsibilities. Ditto for being a committee member to some of the other organizations. This lady goes out and gets things done for the committees in which she works. She doesn't just wait around to be told what to do. Furthermore, she works really well with others and can carry out projects, two things that will be important in improving the District Clerk's office. And, I agree, she hasn't let up on the campaign. She's still at it from morning to night because she doesn't take it for granted that she'll win. The campaign is in overdrive as we speak. She just makes it look easy.

And you're telling me what to think again. I haven't told anybody to vote for her, I merely write about my experience. You still have a choice like all my readers. A little respect, please.

Oh, and I AM hearing stuff, but you will notice that I don't write about it. Give me some credit.

Fall 2024 in the RGV

It's that time of year again when Winter Texans start to make their way south from the northern states. I have already had phone calls with a Winter Texan client who is getting ready to come down. I think it is fascinating that we can make friends from people who are visiting only seasonally.  Looking at the blog stats, I seem to get a peak in traffic every year. So I suppose it must be partly due to many of our friends coming back from up north.  Image generated by Gemini 1.5 Pro AI Speaking of seasons, we still have a couple of months to go before the end of hurricane season for 2024. We have been fortunate this year, compared to other parts of the USA. Although, south Texas could use the rain.  This time of year makes me happy as we finally have nights that are below 78F like we had all summer. This week we have had mornings in the 60s. While we still have hot days in the 90s, we at least get some respite in the evenings, leading to cool mornings.  Returning to RG...

The Mad Mexican

Years ago, there used to be a DJ at B104, a local radio station. Until recent years, B104 had a large audience. They played pop music. The Mad Mexican used to do the morning show with Gary Rodriguez, who is now involved in McAllen politics. Well, the Mad Mexican is still working, but on a national level. I heard him this morning on Aguila, XM 92. Aguila is the Mexican music station on XM Satellite Radio. It's great to hear from him again. He's still pretty wild. Gary Rodriguez? He worked for 107.9 for a while before going to KURV and then entering politics.
